Ações bioquímicas/fisiológicas

O timerosal é um reagente oxidante de sulfidrila (tiol) capaz de inibir uma ampla gama de enzimas e proteínas dependentes de sulfidrila, como a metionina sintase dependente de PI3-quinase, receptores de transporte de glutamato e ATPases dependentes de Na⁺+K⁺.
