Descrição geral

Minimum Essential Medium Eagle (MEM) is a synthetic cell culture media, developed by Harry Eagle. It has high concentrations of amino acids, so the medium closely approximates the protein concentration of cultured mammalian cells. Optional supplementation of non-essential amino acids to the formulations that incorporate either Hanks′ or Earle′s salts has increased the applicability of this medium. This medium lacks calcium that permits the growth of cells in suspension. Modification of the original MEM formulation. Earle′s salts have been replaced with Hanks′ salts. Since the bicarbonate concentration is substantially lower, this medium has a substantially reduced buffering capacity.

Aplicação

Minimum Essential Medium Eagle (MEM) has been used:

  • as a component of the Hank′s MEM (HMEM)-Pipes buffer to induce anaphylatoxin induced-ear swelling in mice
  • as a component of the slice culture medium (SCM) for the incubation of mouse hippocampal slice cultures
  • to culture Müller cells from guinea pigs

Quantidade

Formulated to contain 10.6 grams of powder per liter of medium.

Reconstituição

Supplement with 0.35 g/L sodium bicarbonate.

Synaptic plasticity, with its two most studied forms, long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD), is the cellular mechanism underlying learning and memory. Although it has been known for two decades that bidirectional synaptic plasticity necessitates a corresponding bidirectional regulation

The signaling cascade initiated in response to DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) has been extensively investigated in interphase cells. Here, we show that mitotic cells treated with DSB-inducing agents activate a "primary" DNA damage response (DDR) comprised of early signaling events

Through negative regulation of gene expression, microRNAs (miRNAs) can function as oncosuppressors in cancers, and can themselves show altered expression in various tumor types. Here, we have investigated medulloblastoma tumors (MBs), which arise from an early impairment of developmental processes

Cysteine proteases have been shown to be essential virulence factors and drug targets in trypanosomatids and an attractive antidisease vaccine candidate for Trypanosoma congolense. Here, we describe an important amplification of genes encoding cathepsin B-like proteases unique to T. congolense.
