バリウムは、体心立方晶構造をもつ 反応性の柔らかい電気陽性 金属です。酸化物をアルミニウムで還元することにより、 真空中で製造できます。中程度の比重と優れた導電性を備えています。合金化、真空管からの不要なガスの除去、 還元剤として 広く使用されています。
アプリケーション
Ba21M2O5Hx（M = Ge, SI, Ga, In, Tl）亜酸化物Zintl相の合成に不可欠です。
バリウムは、Ba3Bi6.67Se13、Ba3Bi6PbSe13およびBa3Bi6SnSe13を合成する前駆体として使用できます。
ペロブスカイト膜のPb2+置換用ドーパントとして使用できます。バリウムを添加すると、有機-無機ハロゲン化鉛太陽電池の電力変換効率が向上します。
