Application

Potassium acetate is used in molecular biology to precipitate sodium dodecyl sulfate and SDS-bound proteins that result from SDS extraction protocols. Potassium acetate facilitates the purification of DNA when using SDS protocols and ethanol DNA precipitation protocols.
