General description

Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is an anionic detergent suitable to denature proteins. It has a long-chain aliphatic group with negatively charged sulfate attached. This makes SDS an amphipathic detergent.[66]

Application

Sodium dodecyl sulfate has been used:
  • in chromatin immunoprecipitation
  • in SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE)
  • as a component of radioimmunoprecipitation assay buffer for immunoblotting
Anionic detergent

Analysis Note

Tested for use in denatured polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.
