General description

Tween 20, also referred to as poly(oxyethylene)n-sorbitan-monolaurate, is a non-ionic surfactant. It is mainly used in membrane research.

Application

Tween 20 is used for:
  • solubilizing membrane proteins during isolation of membrane-protein complexes.
  • a subsequent protein detection by UV light absorption, due to its low UV absorbance.
  • ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) and immunoblots.

Quality

Purity: <2 ppm peroxide content (as H2O2), <200 μM carbonyls, <100 μS conductivity. Specially purified for membrane research.

Physical form

10% (w/v) aqueous solution under nitrogen, supplied in injection glass bottles.

Preparation Note

Working concentration: >10 mg/mg membrane lipid

Other Notes

For life science research only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.

Journal of pharmaceutical sciences, 94(6), 1368-1381 (2005-04-29)
The objectives of this work were to determine the effects of nonionic surfactants (Tween 20 and Tween 80) on agitation-induced aggregation of the recombinant fusion protein, Albutropintrade mark (human growth hormone genetically fused to human albumin), and to characterize the
