General description

Green fluorescent protein (GFP) chromophore contains hexapeptide fragment with Phe64-Ser-Tyr-Gly-Val-Gln69 aminoacid sequence.[58] GFP structure contains a 11-stranded β-barrel and a central helix[59] and corresponds to a molecular weight of 26 kDa.[60]

Specificity

Specific for GFP fusion proteins.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding amino acids 3-17 of GFP.

Application

Anti-GFP, N-terminal antibody produced in rabbit has been used:
  • in immunoblotting
[62]
  • in the histochemistry and immunohistochemistry
  • [63]
  • in the immunoprecipitation
  • [64]

    Biochem/physiol Actions

Green fluorescent protein (GFP) has photochemical and diagnostic applications. It is also used widely in protein dynamics studies.[58] The polyclonal anti-GFP, N-terminal rabbit antibody reacts specifically with GFP fusion proteins.
