Description

Application

Sodium tetraborate, also known as borax(Na₂B₄O₇), can be employed as a catalyst:

• In the chemoselective oxidation of alkyl and aryl sulfides to sulfoxides and sulfones using H₂O₂ as the oxidant.
• In the synthesis of pyridines, dienes, anilines, and dihydropyrano[3,2-c]chromenes via Knoevenagel condensation and Michael addition pathway.
• In thiolysis of 1,2-epoxides to β-hydroxy sulfides.
