Clotrimazole is an imidazole antifungal agent with relatively low toxicity. It is widely used in dermatology and gynaecology applications. Clotrimazole ointments are extensively utilized for the treatment of a wide range of systemic mycoses including candidiasis.

Clotrimazole may be used as a pharmaceutical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in pharmaceutical formulations by various chromatography techniques.
