NEDD8 activating enzyme E1 subunit 1 (NAE1), also known as amyloid precursor protein binding protein-1 (APP-BP1), is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 16q22.1. The encoded protein is ubiquitously expressed in neural and non-neural tissues.

Ações bioquímicas/fisiológicas

NEDD8 activating enzyme E1 subunit 1 (NAE1) plays an essential role in cullin-RING E3 ligase (CRL) activation. It facilitates the covalent binding of the ubiquitin-like protein, neural precursor cell expressed developmentally downregulated protein 8 (Nedd8) to members of the cullin family including Cul1. The encoded protein binds to the carboxyl terminus of the amyloid precursor protein (APP) and activates NEDD8. In addition, it also regulates the cell cycle progression of fetal neural stem cells.
