Gene Information

human ... BCL2(596)

General description

BCL2 (B-cell lymphoma 2) consists of pro- and antiapoptotic functions. It belongs to BCL2 family of proteins. It is mapped to chromosome 18q21.3 .

Immunogen

Peptide sequence around aa. 54-58 (G-H-T-P-H), according to the protein BCL2.

Application

Anti-BCL2 (Ab-56) antibody has been used in western blotting .

Biochem/physiol Actions

Overexpression of BCL2 (B-cell lymphoma 2) results in poor clinical predictions in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). It plays an important role in the growth and progression of cancer.

Features and Benefits

Target description

Suppresses apoptosis in a variety of cell systems including factor-dependent lymphohematopoietic and neural cells. Regulates cell death by controlling the mitochondrial membrane permeability. Appears to function in a feedback loop system with caspases. Inhibits caspase activity either by preventing the release of cytochrome c from the mitochondria and/or by binding to the apoptosis-activating factor (APAF-1).

Physical form

Solution in phosphate-buffered saline containing 0.02% sodium azide and 50% glycerol

MicroRNA (miR)-217 has been reported to participate in carcinogenesis and tumor progression in several cancers; however, its expression and biological functions in colorectal cancer (CRC) are still unclear. The present study demonstrated that miR-217 expression was significantly higher in matched
