Gene Information

human ... AR(367)

General description

Androgen receptor (AR) is a nuclear transcription factor. It belongs to the steroid hormone receptor superfamily. AR gene is located on human chromosome Xq12. AR is present in endothelial and vascular smooth muscle cells.

Immunogen

Peptide with sequence EVQLGLGRVYPRPPSC from the N Terminus of the protein sequence according to NP_000035.2.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Androgens like testosterone and 5α-dihydrotestosterone are required for the progression, growth, differentiation and maintenance of organ structure of the prostate. It plays a major role in normal and malignant breast tissue.

Docetaxel chemotherapy remains a standard of care for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). Docetaxel modestly increases survival, yet results in frequent occurrence of side effects and resistant disease. An alternate chemotherapy with greater efficacy and minimal side effects is needed.
