General description

PKCγ (protein kinase C γ) is a s a serine/threonine kinase belonging to the protein kinase C (PKC) family. PKCγ is mainly present in the central nervous system and is strongly expressed in cerebellar Purkinje cells.

Biochem/physiol Actions

PKCγ (protein kinase C γ) is involved in cell proliferation, differentiation as well as migration. Mutations in PKCγ are associated with neurodegenerative disease, spinocerebellar ataxia type 14. Single nucleotide polymorphisms in PKCγ are also linked with high risk of osteosarcoma.

Physical form

Supplied in 50 mM Tris-HCl, pH 7.5, with 150 mM NaCl, 0.2 5mM DTT, 0.1 mM EGTA, 0.1 mM EDTA, 0.1 mM PMSF, and 25% glycerol.

Amyloid assemblies are associated with a wide range of human disorders, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Here, we identify protein kinase C (PKC) γ, a serine/threonine kinase mutated in the neurodegenerative disease spinocerebellar ataxia type 14 (SCA14), as a novel
