General description

Interleukin 8 (IL-8) is an 8kD, 72 amino acid residue containing cytokine that belongs to C-X-C chemokine family . The IL-8 gene is mapped to human chromosome 4q13.3.

Specificity

The antibody will neutralize the biological activity of recombinant and natural human IL-8, but not recombinant human GROα.

Immunogen

recombinant human IL-8 (CXCL8).

Application

Anti-Interleukin-8 antibody can be used for the following :
  • For neutralizing the biological activity of recombinant human IL-8 and natural human IL-8.
  • Immunoblotting.
  • ELISA.
Anti-Interleukin-8 antibody can be used in immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Interleukin 8 (IL-8) stimulates neutrophils to produce lysosomal enzymes along with myeloperoxidase, α-mannosidase and β-glucuronidase . Goat anti-Interleukin-8 antibody reacts specifically with recombinant and natural human IL-8 but not with recombinant human GROα. Elevated expression of the gene is observed in a number of cancers including chronic spontaneous urticaria and breast cancer, thus serves as a prognostic marker for the same. IL-8 regulates the metastasis and angiogenesis processes during cancer development. IL-8 is responsible for epithelial–mesenchymal transition which plays an important role in providing cancer cells the mobility to invade other neighbouring cells, thereby contributing to metastasis.

Physical form

Lyophilized from 0.2 μm filtered solution in phosphate buffered saline containing carbohydrates.

Stimulated human monocytes release several proteins thought to play a role in inflammation, including interleukin 1, tumor necrosis factor, and plasminogen activator. We have purified another proinflammatory protein that is chemotactic for human neutrophils from conditioned medium of lipopolysaccharide-stimulated monocytes.
