Target description

CD70 antigen (UniProt: O55237; also known as CD27 ligand, CD27-L, Tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 7) is encoded by the Cd70 (also known as Cd27l, Cd27lg, Tnfsf7) gene (Gene ID: 21948) in mouse. CD70 is a type II transmembrane protein belonging to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) family. The extracellular domain is involved in binding to its receptor, CD27, which is a member of the TNF receptor family. CD70, together with CD27, plays a critical role in the immune system and involved in T and B cell activation and differentiation and in the formation and maintenance of memory T cells, which are essential for long-term immunity. CD70 expression is tightly regulated and primarily found on activated lymphocytes and dendritic cells. Overexpression of CD70 in tumors can lead to immune evasion by inducing T cell exhaustion and apoptosis through chronic CD70-CD27 signaling. Targeting CD70 or CD27 is being explored as a therapeutic strategy in oncology. Dysregulated CD70 expression can contribute to autoimmune conditions and chronic infections as well.
