Gene Information

human ... STAG2(10735)

General description

The cohesin subunit SA-2 is a part of the cohesin complex. This complex is comprised of a heterodimer between SMC1 and SMC3 proteins, as well as RAD21 and STAG proteins (STAG1, 2, or 3). These proteins form a large ring that can trap sister chromatids after DNA replication. During prophase, the cohesion complexes dissociate from the chromatin due to the phosphorylation by PLK1 (Polo-like kinase) with the exception at the centromeres where the cohesion complexes remain. Then during anaphase, the RAD21 subunit is cleaved which causes the dissociation of the complex from chromosomes, allowing chromosome separation.

Specificity

Other homologies: Mouse and Rat (93%-14/15aa).

Immunogen

KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to human Cohesin Subunit SA-2.
