General description

Phosphoserine is a phosphoamino acid that is most abundant in the eukaryotic phosphoproteome. Phosphoserine is synthesized post-translationally as it is not encoded in the genetic code.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphoserine (PS) is a metabolic precursor for serine. In some methanogenic archaea, PS is utilised to incorporate cysteine into proteins.
