General description
Mycolic acid is a long Fatty acid found in the cell walls of the mycolata taxon, a group of bacteria that includes Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, the causative agent of the disease tuberculosis.
Mycolic acid is composed of 70-90 carbons, with the saturated α-chain made up of 24 carbons and meromycolate chains made up of 40-60 carbons. Nature or structure of mycolic acid facilitates the determination of fluidity and permeability of mycobacterial cell wall.
