General description
Bismuth(III) chloride is an inorganic salt that can be prepared by the reaction of bismuth with chlorine.
Application
Bismuth(III) chloride may be used as a catalyst in the following processes:
- Alcoholysis, acetolysis and hydrolysis of epoxides to form the corresponding β-alkoxy and β-acetoxy alcohols and diols.
- Preparation of thiiranes from oxiranes using ammonium thiocyanate.
- Three component coupling of carbonyl compound, amine and dialkyl phosphite to form α-amino phosphonates.
- Allylation of secondary benzyl alcohols with allyltrimethylsilane.
- [4 + 2] cycloaddition between dienes and α-carbonyl ethylenic dienophiles.
