Greener Alternative Product Icon

A new icon (depicted in the image) has been added to identify our Greener Alternative Products. Products with this icon fulfill one of the four criteria:

  1. Re-engineered Products by our scientists significantly improve their environmental footprint.
  2. 12 Principles Aligned Products align with the 12 Principles of Green Chemistry.
  3. Enabling Products help make greener alternatives possible through enabling technologies.
  4. Design for Sustainability (DfS) Developed Products demonstrate significant sustainability characteristics.
Re-engineered Products

Re-engineered Products

Products found in the re-engineered category have been manufactured by our scientists. Members of the Worldwide Green Chemistry Committee have developed new ways to manufacture the products that use fewer resources, are less hazardous and/or generate less waste. We’ve also introduced an industry-first scoring system to quantify the improvement in environmental footprint. Learn more by visiting the Matrix Scoring explanation page.

12 Principles Aligned

12 Principles Aligned Products

These products demonstrate one or more characteristics that align with the 12 Principles of Green Chemistry. An example of these products includes a new biorenewable solvent called Cyrene™. This new solvent is a potential substitution for traditional solvents like NMP and DMF. With a lower hazard profile and a CO2 footprint approaching zero, Cyrene™ aligns with Green Chemistry Principle #4 “Designing Safer Chemicals.”

Enabling Products

Enabling Products

Enabling products are those that enable the research of alternative energy. Products throughout our portfolios are used by scientists to unlock the power of nature, including a wide variety of novel and tested materials used for energy generation, storage, and efficiency. In addition to our constantly evolving portfolio, we maintain a number of collaborations with leading universities to develop and test the latest in alternative energy materials, ensuring the newest technology is always available to the research community. Some of the products in this category may not be greener themselves but they are key in the development of greener solutions.

DfS Products

Design for Sustainability (DfS) Developed Products

Our Design for Sustainability (DfS) approach is embedded in our Product Development Process to ensure that we address and assess sustainability characteristics of our products during their development. The products in this category are new products that demonstrate significant sustainability characteristics/improvement from our DfS scorecard. An example of these products includes our new Stericup® E sterile filters. These new filters allow to significantly reduce the amount of plastic and packaging that enter in the laboratory and waste stream, compared to similar sterile filters.
