General description

Albumin is the most abundant plasma protein in humans. High levels of albumin are associated with dehydration. Albumin turnover is seen in infants with iron deficiency anemia. Serum albumin is a reliable prognostic indicator for liver disease. Oxidative damage of albumin is associated with advanced liver disease.

Application

Bovine Serum Albumin solution has been used as a component:
  • of Eagle′s minimal essential medium (MEM) used as the liquid maintenance medium (MM) for virus infection
  • of blocking solution in stimulated and automated immunostaining
  • of Temin′s modified eagles medium to prepare the fresh overlay medium
  • in binding medium to perform binding assays
