Tetraconazole is a systemic triazole fungicide― known for its protective, curative, and eradicant activities. It inhibits ergosterol biosynthesis by interfering with the activity of C14-demethylase. It is used for protection against:
  • Puccinia spp. and Ustilago spp. in cereals
  • Eysiphe betae, Cercospora beticola and Uromyces betae in sugar beets
  • Podosphaera leucotricha and Venturia spp. in pome fruit
  • Erysiphe necator in grapes
  • Sphaerotheca fuliginea and Erysiphe cichoracearum in cucurbits
  • Sphaerotheca macularis in strawberries
  • Leveillula taurica in tomatoes, peppers, and artichokes
  • Powdery mildew, rust and scab in vegetables, ornamentals, and tropical fruit
According to the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 540/2011 of 25th May 2011, tetraconazole is approved for use in the European Union (EU) as a plant protection agent, following the Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009. But maximum residue levels of 0.01 mg/kg to 1 mg/kg are allowed for the presence of tetraconazole in products of plant and animal origin, according to the EU Reg. 2019/1015.
Tetraconazole has to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Programme for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.

Application

The certified reference material (CRM) is intended to be used as a calibrant for chromatography and other analytical techniques.
Tetraconazole CRM may also be used as given below:

  • Multi-residue analysis of 213 pesticides in edible oil samples using an analytical approach combining QuEChERS methodology with gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS)
  • Multi-residue analysis of 379 pesticides in human serum samples extracted by QuEChERS method― using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
  • Detection of 327 multiclass pesticide and 17 veterinary drug residues in eight animal feed samples using liquid- and gas- chromatography combined with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS)
  • Development of a semi-automated method for the analysis of 261 pesticides and 41 environmental contaminants in catfish muscle samples by QuEChERS sample extraction and low-pressure GC-MS/MS and UHPLC-MS/MS, following an automated robotic micro-SPE clean-up
  • Multi-residue analysis of 67 pesticides in olive oil, olives, and avocado samples by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to evaluate various clean-up sorbents
  • Method development and validation for the determination of 252 pesticides extracted from surface water samples by solid-phase extraction (SPE) using liquid chromatography quadrupole-orbitrap high resolution tandem mass spectrometry
