Monocarboxylate transporter 8 (UniProt: P36021; also known as MCT 8, Monocarboxylate transporter 7, Solute carrier family 16 member 2, X-linked PEST-containing transporter) is encoded by the SLC16A2 (also known as MCT7, MCT8, XPCT) gene (Gene ID: 6567) in human. MCT8 is a multi-pass membrane protein with seven cytoplasmic domains, twelve transmembrane domains, and six extracellular domains. It is highly expressed in the liver and heart. In the adult brain tissue, its expression is largely confined to the endothelial cells of the blood-brain barrier. It serves as a specific thyroid hormone transmembrane transporter that mediates both uptake and efflux of thyroid hormones across the cell membrane independently of pH or a Na+ gradient. Its major substrates are the iodothyronines T3 and T4. It is an important mediator of thyroid hormone transport, especially T3, through the blood-brain barrier. Purified recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibody IgG, lyophilized in PBS, 5% Trehalose, normal appearance a coarse or translucent resin. The PBS/trehalose components in the ZooMAb formulation can have the appearance of a semi-solid (bead like gel) after lyophilization. This is a normal phenomenon. Please follow the recommended reconstitution procedure in the data sheet to dissolve the semi-solid, bead-like, gel-appearing material. The resulting antibody solution is completely stable and functional as proven by full functional testing. Contains no biocide or preservatives, such as azide, or any animal by-products.
