生物化学的／生理学的作用
Matrineはアルカロイドの一種で、エンジュ属の根に含まれる主要成分のひとつです。Matrineでは、B型およびC型肝炎に対する抗ウイルス性作用の可能性に加え、いくつかの皮膚病や癌形態に対する効果について調べられています。
マトリンは、抗癌、抗細菌、抗線維形成、抗炎症特性などの薬理学的特性を有する強力な治療薬です。マクロピノサイトーシス誘導剤であり、細胞のアデノシン三リン酸（ATP）濃度を低下させます。マトリンは、有効な鎮静剤としても作用することがあります。マウスの2,4,6-トリニトロベンゼンスルホン酸（TNBS）誘発性小腸炎症に対する抗炎症剤としても作用します。ワールブルク効果を逆行させ、ヒト結腸癌細胞の増殖を抑制するように機能します。
