生物化学的／生理学的作用

MCOLN1 (mucolipin-1) is a lysosomal Ca²⁺ release channel. It regulates lysosome biogenesis as well as reformation, partly by activating calmodulin. It also helps in redistribution of Fe²⁺ between the lysosomes and the cytoplasm, thereby regulating reactive oxygen species production and mitochondrial deterioration. Mutations in this gene causes mucolipidosis type IV, a lysosomal storage disorder. MCOLN1 might also be involved with Alzheimer′s disease and HIV.
