ヘモシアニンは、高分子量の銅含有糖タンパク質です。酸素と可逆的に結合し、軟体類の細胞外呼吸タンパク質を形成します。キーホールリンペットヘモシアニン（KLH）は、ジャイアントキーホールリンペットとも呼ばれるMegathura crenulataの血リンパから濾過されます。
腹足類ヘモシアニンは、自己集合して直径35nmの中空の円筒を形成する10個のサブユニットを複雑に配置して設計された大きな糖タンパク質（4～8MDa）です。
アプリケーション
キーホールリンペットヘモシアニン（KLH）は、実験動物やヒトの両方における、よく知られた強力な免疫刺激物質です。KLHは、抗原特異的T細胞プライミングを強化するためにヘプタン担体タンパク質として使用されており、CD4+T細胞応答を促進することが知られています。
ヘモシアニンは、抗ペプチド抗体が、ヒトパピローマウイルス31型のl1タンパク質を特異的に認識する場合の研究に使用されています。 また、20量体のキーホールリンペットヘモシアニンの酸誘導性アンフォールディングの研究にも使用されています。
