シザンドリンは、抗酸化作用や抗炎症作用にかかわる複数の生物学的特性を有する天然物です。ROSの形成を低下させ、アポトーシス過程と酸化ストレスのミトコンドリア経路を阻害します。また、肝保護、抗腫瘍性、抗ウイルス性、抗健忘といった作用が報告されており、グルタミン酸による神経毒性に対する神経保護作用があることもわかっています。
