Descripción general

Wilms’ tumor 1 protein (WT1) is a zinc finger transcription factor, normally expressed intissues of mesodermal origin. The Wilms’ tumor gene encodes a protein that functionsas a tumor suppressor gene mapped to human chromosome 11p13.2 Nuclear WT1immunoreactivity has been observed in high frequencies in several types of mesoderm-derived tumors including epithelioid mesothelioma and ovarian serous carcinoma and thus isused as a marker for these neoplasms.

The diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma (MM) is rendered with the aid of immunohistochemistry to demonstrate the presence of "mesothelial," "epithelial," or "sarcomatous" differentiation. Antibody panels that have been proposed for the distinction between MM and other neoplasms usually include 2

Several new immunohistochemical markers that can assist in the diagnosis of mesotheliomas have been recognized recently. This article reviews the current information available on these markers and also provides a practical approach to the immunohistochemical diagnosis of epithelioid mesotheliomas. Current

Desmoplastic small round cell tumors (DSRCTs) present a reciprocal chromosomal translocation, t(11;22)(p13;q12), that results in fusion of Ewing's sarcoma and Wilms' tumor (WT1) genes. The authors evaluated 15 DSRCTs and 71 other tumors often considered in the differential diagnosis for

We evaluated the sensitivity and specificity of 10 monoclonal and two polyclonal antibodies for distinguishing epithelioid mesothelioma from adenocarcinoma (AdCA) using immunohistochemistry (IHC). The antibodies were directed against the mesothelial-associated antigens mesothelin, calretinin, cytokeratin 5, thrombomodulin, Wilms' tumor-1 (WT-1) gene
