Tryptone is a mixture of peptides that is commonly used as a nutrient source in microbiological culture media. It is derived from soybean casein digest and contains a complex mixture of amino acids and peptides, including tryptophan. Tryptone is often used in combination with other ingredients, such as yeast extract and agar, to provide a nutrient-rich environment for the growth of microorganisms. It is particularly useful for culturing fastidious bacteria, which require a more complex nutrient source than simple sugars or amino acids. - Production of recombinant proteins: Tryptone is a component of many bacterial growth media used to produce recombinant proteins. It provides a rich source of amino acids and peptides, which are needed for protein biosynthesis
