Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) treatment helps to lower the risk of stroke in diabetic patients and to be neuroprotective in experimental stroke models. It participates in glucose homeostasis and has an impact on the cardiovascular system. GLP-1 may promote pancreatic β-cell proliferation and neogenesis.
