Gene Information
human ... LTF(4057)
General description
LTF (lactotransferrin) codes for a 80 kDa glycoprotein which is expressed in many tissues and organs such as mammary gland, uterus, kidney and brain and found in body fluids including tears, milk, vitreous humor and saliva. Lactotransferrin is considered pleiotropic. Lactotransferrin belongs to the transferrin family and is homologous in sequence and structure with iron binding protein. The LTF gene is mapped to human chromosome 3p21.31.
The LTF ELISA kit provides for the Quantitative measurement of Lactotransferrin in Cell Culture Supernatants, Plasma and Serum.
Application
For research use only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.

Biochem/physiol Actions
Lactotransferrin regulates the immune and inflammatory responses. Lactotransferrin is also known to be involved in bone metabolism. It might play an important role in dental osseointegration implantation. Lactotransferrin is known for its antimicrobial anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity. Anti-angiogenic, anti-tumor effects of this protein proves that it is a tumor suppressor. Neuronal differentiation is also an important function of lactotransferrin.

Human lactoferrin (hLF) is a valuable protein for pharmaceutical products and functional foods, and worldwide demand for this protein has steadily increased. However, large-scale recombinant human lactoferrin (rhLF) production using current animal bioreactor techniques is limited by the low expression

Neutrophils are recruited to the airways of patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) where they acquire an activated pro-survival phenotype with an enhanced respiratory burst thought to contribute to ARDS pathophysiology. Our in vitro model enables blood neutrophil transepithelial

Rotavirus vaccines have been introduced into national immunization programmes to mitigate morbidity and mortality associated rotavirus diarrhoea. Lower vaccine effectiveness has however been noted in low-middle income countries, but little is known about the role of maternal components found in
