應用

牛磺酸已被用于利用牛磺酸的紫色非硫光合细菌的分离和生长以及光合生长实验。

生化/生理作用

牛磺酸可以调节细胞内钙浓度,防止缺血再灌注损伤并具有降血压特性。它还在胆汁形成和脂肪消化中发挥作用。牛磺酸缺乏与焦虑、多动、癫痫和抑郁有关。
甘氨酸受体的非选择性内源激动剂。在某些细胞中调节细胞凋亡的条件必需磺化氨基酸;在许多新陈代谢活动中起作用;是蛋氨酸和半胱氨酸的代谢产物。
