Gene Information

human ... GRIA2(2891)

General description

Anti-GLUR2 Antibody detects endogenous levels of total GLUR2 protein.
GLUR2 (glutamate receptor 2) is coded by gria2 gene. It is mapped to human chromosome 4q32. It is abundantly expressed in the brain.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human GluR2.

Immunogen Range: 834-883

Application

Anti-GLUR2, C-Terminal antibody has been used in electron microscopy.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Presence of the glutamate receptor 2 (GluR2) subunit prevents calcium influx through AMPA-receptor complexes. Deletion of this subunit results in enhanced hippocampal long-term potentiation. As such, AMPA receptors play crucial roles in normal neuronal activity, including synaptic plasticity, synaptic scaling, homeostatic synaptic plasticity, learning and memory, as well as in synaptogenesis and the formation of neuronal circuitry.

Prenatal ethanol exposure (PE) is one of the developmental factors leading to increased addiction propensity (risk). However, the neuronal mechanisms underlying this effect remain unknown. We examined whether increased excitatory synaptic transmission in ventral tegmental area (VTA) dopamine (DA) neurons
