Gene Information

human ... XK(7504)

Immunogen

Synthetic peptide directed towards the N terminal region of human XK

Biochem/physiol Actions

This locus controls the synthesis of the Kell blood group ′precursor substance′ (Kx). Mutations in this gene have been associated with McLeod syndrome, an X-linked, recessive disorder characterized by abnormalities in the neuromuscular and hematopoietic systems. XK has structural characteristics of prokaryotic and eukaryotic membrane transport proteins. This locus controls the synthesis of the Kell blood group ′precursor substance′ (Kx). Vps13 is a highly conserved lipid transfer protein found at multiple interorganelle membrane contact sites where it mediates distinct processes. In yeast, recruitment of Vps13 to different contact sites occurs via various partner proteins. In humans, four VPS13 family members
