General description

The role of white adipose tissue was thought to be limited to energy storage and internal organ protection. The discovery of leptin secretion from adipocytes in 1994 led to the recognition that white adipose tissue is involved in a variety of metabolic and physiological processes. Adipocytes secrete several hormones called adipokines with functions that include appetite and energy balance, insulin sensitivity and lipid metabolism. One of these adipokines, adiponectin, is involved in the regulation of lipid and glucose metabolism, influencing the body′s response to insulin. Its anti-inflammatory effects on the cellular lining of blood vessel walls may explain the association of high adiponectin levels with a reduced risk of heart attack.

MILLIPLEX® Mouse Adipocyte Panel is a 7-plex kits used for the simultaneous quantification of any or all of the following analytes in mouse tissue culture supernatant samples: Adiponectin, IL-6, Leptin, MCP-1, PAI-1 Total, Resistin and TNFα. This kit uses a 96-well format, contains a lyophilized standard cocktail, two internal assay quality controls and can measure up to 38 samples in duplicate.

The Luminex® xMAP® platform uses a magnetic bead immunoassay format for ideal speed and sensitivity to quantitate multiple analytes simultaneously, dramatically improving productivity while conserving valuable sample volume.

Obesity is a risk factor for postmenopausal breast cancer. Obesity-related inflammation upregulates aromatase expression, the rate-limiting enzyme for estrogen synthesis, in breast adipose tissue (BAT), increasing estrogen production and cancer risk. The regulation of aromatase gene (CYP19A1) in BAT is
