General description

Methyl benzoate is a volatile aromatic ester widely used in perfumery industries because of its pleasant smell. It is also an important class of chemical intermediate commonly used in plasticizers, pharmaceuticals, dyeing polyester fibers, solvents, disinfectants, and pesticides.

Application

Methyl benzoate can be used as:
  • A solvent in the ink-jet printing of polymers.
  • A nonreacting plasticizer in the efficient crosslinking reaction of phenolic resin.
  • A starting material to synthesize glycol dibenzoate plasticizers by transesterification with glycols.
