General description

Cadmium (Cd) is a chemical element generally used as a precursor and catalyst in organic reactions.

Application

  • Autophagy activation for cell protection: Research on rat hepatocytes demonstrated that autophagy activation could be a mechanism for cellular protection against lead-cadmium-triggered apoptosis, offering insights into the potential therapeutic strategies against heavy metal toxicity (Xue et al., 2024).
  • Soil remediation and agriculture: A study explored the divergent responses of rhizosphere soil phosphorus fractions and biological features of Salix psammophila to different fertilization strategies under cadmium contamination, highlighting the environmental and agricultural implications of cadmium in soil management (Gai et al., 2024).

Toxic heavy metals have adverse effects on human health. However, the risk of hematuria caused by heavy metal exposure has not been evaluated. Data from 4701 Korean adults were obtained in the Korean National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (2008-2010).
