Proteasome subunit α type-3 is a protein encoded by the PSMA3 gene in humans. The proteasome system plays an important biological role in antigen processing and immune response. It may be involved in pathogenesis of many immunity-related diseases. Sex-specific association of PSMA6/PSMC6/PSMA3 genetic variants with subtypes of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and plasma proteasome concentrations is observed. A large number of PSMA3-bound proteins are involved in various aspects of mRNA metabolism that includes splicing.
