The gene CTH (cystathionine γ-lyase) is mapped to human chromosome 1p31. It is a member of the γ-family of pyridoxal phosphate (PLP)-dependent enzymes.

CTH (cystathionine γ-lyase) is a pyridoxal phosphate (PLP)-dependent enzyme which participates in the transsulfuration pathway. It is responsible for the generation of endogenous hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) via desulfhydration of cysteine. In mouse model, absence of CTH causes hypertension and decreases endothelium-associated vasorelaxation. CTH-mediated H₂S production protects against ischemic heart diseases.
