This property is especially valuable in electrophoresis, a technique used to separate and analyze macromolecules like proteins. SDS, with its negative charge, interacts with proteins and lipids to create micellar structures, aiding in solubilizing and stabilizing these biomolecules.

Detersivo anionico

Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) has been used:

• as a negatively charged surfactant to study its effects on filtration flux and membrane fouling during the microfiltration of the surfactant-stabilized oil emulsion
• as a component of plant extraction buffer, and transferring buffer for western blot
• as a component of 5× Laemmli sample buffer (5× LB) and 10× SDS running buffer for sodium dodecyl-sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and immunoblot
