碱性品红被用作木质素检测荧光染料，可用于三种不同生态类型 二穗短柄草 基部节间的木质素的荧光成像。

生化／生理作用

碱性品红属于三苯基甲烷类。将碱性品红与亚硫酸结合可形成品红亚硫酸，也称为Feulgen试剂或Schiff试剂。该试剂可用于染色体DNA的染色。碱性品红也可用于植物组织样品中木质素的染色。

適合性

在Periodic Acid Schiff（PAS）和Feulgen技术中，作为ENDO培养基以及Schiff's试剂，经认证其可用于石炭品红的耐酸染色。
