该制剂可用作核酸（DNA或RNA）沉淀的载体。作为惰性材料，它可以代替tRNA或超声处理的DNA。
20 μg糖原（1 μl溶液）可以从1 ml的体积中沉淀出pg量的DNA或RNA。
在一个典型实验中，将5 pg [3H]标记的小牛胸腺DNA溶解于含1 mM EDTA、0.4 M LiCl的500 μl 10 mM Tris-HCl（pH 8.0）中。加入1 μl糖原溶液（20 μg糖原）作为载体，然后在-15至-25 °C下用1.2 ml乙醇沉淀，并在-15至-25 °C下保存3小时。 离心（12 000×g 10分钟）后，总放射性存在于沉淀物中。不添加糖原，DNA不会沉淀。
