General description

Pentobarbital is a short-acting barbiturate and hypnotic approved for treatment of seizures and preoperative sedation. Also known as pentobarbitone, the sodium salt of pentobarbital is used as an anesthetic in veterinary medicine. This certified solution standard is suitable for GC/MS and LC/MS testing applications in forensic analysis, clinical toxicology or urine drug testing.

Application

  • Oral pentobarbital intake in rhesus monkeys: effects of drug concentration under conditions of food deprivation and satiation.: This study examines the impact of varying concentrations of oral pentobarbital on the intake behavior of rhesus monkeys, exploring the relationship between drug effects and nutritional status (Kliner DJ et al., 1989).
  • Consumption of intoxicating beverages by rats and mice exhibiting high and low preferences for ethanol.: This research investigates the drinking behaviors of rodents with different ethanol preferences and includes data on the consumption patterns when exposed to substances like pentobarbital, offering insights into genetic predispositions and response to sedatives (York JL, 1981).

Barbiturates are widely used in the management of high intracranial pressure (ICP) caused by diffuse brain swelling. The cardiovascular, renal, and immunological side effects of these drugs limit them to last-line therapy. There are few published data regarding the role
