Descripción general

Epithelial Call Adhesion Molecule (EpCAM, CD326) is a transmembrane glycoprotein of approximately 40 kDa. EpCAM was initially identified as a tumor associated marker having high expression in quickly proliferating epithelial tumors. As such, EpCAM has been of significant interest as a means for tumor diagnosis and therapy. EpCAM is also expressed in normal epithelial cells, but in comparatively lower levels. Preliminary studies limited EpCAM’s function to cell-cell adhesion; however more recent studies indicate it to be involved in diverse processes that include cell migration, cell signaling, differentiation and proliferation.

Especificidad

This antibody recognizes epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM), specifically on undifferentiated human embryonic stem cells.
