It may be used as an internal standard for the quantification of lipids in serum and skeletal muscles using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis. It may also be used as an internal standard for retention time calibration and for the extraction of lipids from blood samples using methanol and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE).
