Descrição geral
IL15 (interleukin 15) protein is a short-chain α-helical bundle type 1 T cell-stimulating cytokine. It is a pleiotropic cytokine belonging to the cytokine receptor γ chain family, and is expressed by dendritic cells (DCs), epithelial cells, macrophages, monocytes, and fibroblasts. IL15, along with its receptor IL15Rα, are co-expressed majorly by activated monocytes and DCs (dendritic cells). Recombinant mouse IL-15 is a 13.3 kDa protein containing 115 amino acid residues.
Ações bioquímicas/fisiológicas
IL15 (interleukin 15) and IL2 are the only two known cytokine till date that bind to T-cells through IL-2Rβ (IL2 receptorβ). It interacts with lymphocytes via the heterotrimeric IL-15 receptor (IL-15R) composed of IL-15Rα, IL-2 receptor beta (IL-2Rβ), and IL-2 receptor gamma (IL-2Rγ). Since, IL-2R and IL-15R have common subunits, it is supposed that IL2 and IL15 perform similar functions, such as induction of lymphocyte activation and proliferation in vitro, and apoptosis of activated lymphocytes (AICD). However, unlike IL2, IL15 mimics the function of IFN I (interferon) by potently and selectively activating memory-phenotype CD44hi CD8+ cells.

Following microbial pathogen invasion, one of the main challenges for the host is to rapidly control pathogen spreading to avoid vital tissue damage. Here we report that an effector CD8(+) T-cell population that expresses the marker NK1.1 undergoes delayed contraction

Virus-induced exacerbations often lead to further impairment of lung function in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. IL-15 is critical in antiviral immune responses. Retinoic acid (RA) signaling plays an important role in tissue maintenance and repair, particularly in the lung. We

Mature NK cells are heterogeneous as to their expression levels of cell surface molecules. However, the functional differences and physiological roles of each NK-cell subset are not fully understood. In this study, we report that based on the Ly6C expression
