General description

Cholecalciferol (D3) is a fat soluble vitamin, and is one of the forms of vitamin D, synthesized in human skin on exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight, or it can also be obtained from food. It is found to be essential in humans for maintaining normal calcium metabolism.

Application

Cholecalciferol (D3) may be used as an analytical reference for the quantification of the analyte in different food matrices using different chromatography techniques.
Refer to the product′s Certificate of Analysis for more information on a suitable instrument technique. Contact Technical Service for further support.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Vitamin D acts through a receptor that is a member of the ligand-dependent transcription factor superfamily. Modulates the proliferation and differentiation of both normal and cancer cells. Has antiproliferative and antimetastatic effects on breast, colon, and prostate cancer cells. Activated vitamin D receptors in intestine and bone maintain calcium absorbance and homeostasis.

Protocols

While quantitative analysis was performed for Vitamins D2 and D3, the samples were scanned for the presence of the 25-hydroxy metabolites.

This application demonstrates the suitability of the Ascentis Express C18, 5 μm, for the routine analysis of the fat-soluble vitamins D2 and D3 . Structures along with the optimized chromatogram obtained on the Ascentis Express C18, 5 μm are presented.
