General description

PI(3,4)P2 is a lipid secondary messenger. It is obtained from the dephosphorylation of PI(3,4,5)P3 by 5-phosphatase.

Biochem/physiol Actions

PI(3,4)P2 plays a role in protein kinase B (PKB) phosphorylation on Ser473 in mast cells. It also binds to certain effectors such as serine/threonine-specific protein kinase (AKT) and dual adaptor of phosphotyrosine and 3-phosphoinositides 1 (DAPP1). It also regulates the activity of actin mesh which is associated with endocytic structures.
