BSA是已知的脂肪酸(FA)载体。因此,控制用于培养细胞系的特定FA′非常重要,因为不同细胞系对特定的脂肪酸可能有不同的敏感性。因此,不含脂肪酸的BSA是细胞培养实验的有用工具,培养实验中必须严格控制特定脂肪酸的含量,从而使研究人员能够使用对其细胞系有特异性的特定脂肪酸。不含脂肪酸的白蛋白还为细胞培养中特定脂肪酸的添加提供了最佳和最大结合位点。使用不含FA的BSA还可以缓解人们对非不含FA的BSA中可能含有内源FA′的担忧。
