薯蓣皂苷元是一种三萜类化合物，也是薯蓣皂苷的糖基衍生物。 它存在于山药、胡芦巴（Trigonella foenum-graecum）和闭鞘姜（Costus speciosus）等植物中。
應用
薯蓣皂苷元已被用于：
- 作为分析毛瓣无患子所含总皂苷的标准品
- 口服给予大鼠，以研究其对致动脉粥样化饮食诱导的心脏、肝脏和大脑炎症介质产生的抵抗作用
- 作为标准化合物，用于检测鹰嘴豆和蒺藜的皂苷含量
生化／生理作用
薯蓣皂苷元能诱导结肠癌细胞凋亡以及诱导骨肉瘤细胞的凋亡、细胞周期停滞和环加氧酶活性。它是类固醇药物生产的前体。薯蓣皂苷元已被证明能够通过刺激胆汁排泄来促进胆固醇生成。它能够影响脂氧合酶诱导的人红白血病细胞系分化。
